Tours

All tours are on Friday, February 9 and leave from/return to the conference registration desk located in the Strong Hall atrium. For tours at the University of Tennessee, tour participants will walk with tour guides to and from tour locations. For tours off campus, tour participants will be transported by van with tour guides.

Please be aware that some of the tours below have a cost, these costs will be paid at the location (credit/debit cards, checks, and cash are all accepted at these locations).

Ijams Nature Center Tour

Discover and explore Ijams protected wildlife habitat only two miles away from Downtown, Knoxville. You’ll be guided through the woods by a hike guide and will see animals.

Maximum Participants: 60

Department of Anthropology at the University of Tennessee

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Tennessee has just recently moved into a brand new building, Strong Hall. This tour will highlight all of the new facilities of the department and will visit some of our research labs including the historic archaeology lab. prehistoric archaeology lab, zooarchaeology lab and collections, and the molecular lab.

McClung Museum

The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture is a general museum located on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Built in 1963, exhibits focus on natural history, archaeology, anthropology, decorative arts, and local history.

The tour includes visit to Archaeology lab and various galleries

Knox Whiskey Works Tour

Join us for a guided tour distillery and spirits tasting! You’ll learn the basics of all spirit production and how their hard work translates into the flavor profiles you’ll experience during your tasting. The tour typically last 30-45 minutes and are led by one of the experienced managers or head distiller. You’ll learn the basics of all spirit production and all tours include a tasting flight of all our spirits.

Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum

Join us for a visit to Knoxville Botanical Garden located just 5 minutes from downtown Knoxville, the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum is a great venue with its spectacular views, lush surroundings and close proximity to downtown.
