Charles Reece was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University in 2023. Charles has worked for the Wilkes Heritage Museum for three years. During that time, he has curated exhibits focused on the African Diaspora within Appalachia and northwestern North Carolina Indigenous peoples. As a student at Western Carolina University, Charles worked at the ancestral Cherokee town sites, including Tali Tsisgwayahi and Watauga. Charles is particularly interested in the movement of free Africans and indigenous peoples from Virginia into North Carolina.
