K. Raymond Da-Boi

Raymond Da-Boi is a doctoral student in cultural anthropology and in the graduate certificate program in Disasters, Displacement, & Human Rights (DDHR) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Raymond has a combined progressive professional experience of over ten years in academia (education administration, supervision, teaching and research) as well as development/humanitarian work. Raymond served as associate vice president for student affairs (2015-2018); director, Department of Service Learning (2014-2015); assistant director, senior lecturer and research fellow, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (2006-2014), Cuttington University, Liberia. He was also adjunct faculty and research affiliate in the Department of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University (2012-2013), and adjunct faculty, United Nations Adjunct Faculty Program, Kofi Anan Institute of Conflict Transformation, University of Liberia (2006).

Raymond was a Rotary World Peace Scholar at the Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) in 2008, a United Nations University fellow at the United Nations University (Tokyo) in 2007, and a peace, security, and development fellow at King’s College London, in 2010, where he obtained certificates and an MA degree in armed conflict and peace-building, peace and conflict studies, and conflict, security, and development, respectively.

His research interests span from the political economy of violence, contemporary armed conflict (“new wars”), to peace-building, post-conflict reconstruction, and regional security as well as critical disaster studies and the intersections between conflict, natural resources, climate change and displacement (forced migration). His current work focuses on the nexus between, and the political ecology of borders and conflict, and state-building in the Mano River Basin sub-region of West Africa.
