Anthropology Major, BA
Progression into the Anthropology major is based on performance in the three prerequisite courses: 110 or 117, 120 or 127 and 130 or 137. You must maintain at least a 2.66 GPA for these three courses, with none of the three grades below a C. Upon satisfactory completion of the prerequisites, you may apply for progression into the Anthropology major by completing this application. Upon progression to the major, a departmental advisor will be assigned.
Anthropology Major, BA – Archaeology Concentration
Archaeology, the study of the humanity from deep antiquity to the recent past, is a major focus of research and training within the department at the University of Tennessee. Our strengths include the study of foodways; human interactions with plants, animals and landscapes; social complexity; and the development of the modern world. We employ cutting-edge laboratory and field methods to answer big questions about our past that inform our present.
Anthropology Major, BA – Disasters, Displacement and Human Rights Concentration
The Disasters, Displacement, and Human Rights Program (DDHR) promotes holistic training, collaborative research, rigorous theoretical approaches, and creative and innovative scholarly work on historical and contemporary problems. The DDHR Concentration is available to undergraduates if they have declared the Anthropology major and taken the prerequisites of ANTH 110, 120, and 130 (or the honors equivalents, 117, 127 and 137).
Anthropology Major, BA – Forensic Concentration
Forensic Anthropology is the recovery and examination of human skeletal remains for the medical-legal community. Forensic Anthropology is offered as a specialization within Biological Anthropology. In accordance with the aims and goals of forensic anthropology, the focus of our program is the application of skeletal biological techniques to the identification of decomposing and skeletal remains for law enforcement and medicolegal agencies and investigations.
Anthropology Minor
The Anthropology minor requires completion of two introductory courses in two of the following three subject matter categories: Biological anthropology (110 or 117), Archaeology (120 or 127), or Cultural anthropology (130 or 137). Upon satisfactory completion of the prerequisites, you may apply for progression into the Anthropology minor by completing the application for progression below. Dr. Devlin will serve as the advisor for all students seeking a minor in Anthropology.
