Ashe Black is a proud non-traditional, first-generation scholar and an enrolled member of the Lenni Lenape Delaware Tribe of Indians and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Originally from Higginsville, Missouri, Ashe earned her BA in anthropology at the University of Central Missouri. Her undergraduate research was supported by the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, which fostered her growth and confidence as a scholar.
Ashe’s research interests span biomechanics, form and function, evolutionary biology, human variation, morphometrics, experimental archaeology, paleontology, hominid locomotor evolution, the modern locomotor skeleton, musculoskeletal modeling, and comparative anatomy. She is equally passionate about community-based outreach, mentorship, and research that highlights the treatment and experiences of marginalized groups.
