Sam is a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Sam grew up in Farmington, Michigan, and attended Michigan State University (MSU) where she received a BS in Anthropology and conducted validation research on three-three-dimensional photogrammetry models to document cranial trauma. She also minored in Law, Justice, and Public Policy as well as Social Science Quantitative Data Analytics.
